PENANG: Loganathan Arumugam of the Alleycats has been diagnosed with lung cancer and was admitted to the Mount Miriam Hospital on Saturday.

His elder brother, David, said Loganathan or Loga as he is fondly called, was diagnosed with cancer eight months ago.

“He had been having a very bad cough for a year,” said David, 57, adding that Loga’s condition was bad and that “he is trying his best to fight this.”

This was the first time Loga, 54, has been admitted to the hospital.
“I love my brother, and I pray and hope he gets well. I hope his fans and fellow Malaysians will pray for his fast recovery,” said David.

He said Loga was still able to joke and smile despite his pain.

Loga is married, with a 23-year-old son and a 20-year-old daughter.

“He is a fighter and once he pulls out of this, the first thing he wants to do is to get back on stage and even work with children and teenagers,” said David.

The Alleycats, formed here in 1969, has been entertaining fans around the country, and in Singapore and Indonesia for 30 years. The group started by playing in clubs around the country before signing a recording deal with PolyGram Records in 1978.

The Alleycats have 29 albums to their credit. They are one of Malaysia’s favourite bands with evergreen hits like Sampaikan Salam, Andainya Aku Pergi Dulu Sebelum Mu and Sekuntum Mawar Merah.
